"R.E.M. Survivor 2008" lightning strikes

I recently drove past Jones Beach and was reminded of my last adventure there this past summer. This day was one of the most romantic dates of my life and very close to life changing later. Here's a kick off of how the night began...

Pensyl and I had just sat down and caught one of Modest Mouse' songs and moments later found ourselves SATURATED by rain, drops so heavy our umbrella began to cave in on us. Lighting hit the venue and its sound was so INTENSE. Dan said he felt like lightening grazed his head. The band suddenly stopped playing but the drummer kept rockin' it out! It was definitely a moment. This was the announcement they made after the fact. They later confirmed lightening had struck the venue.

New Music on Radar: Lisa Shaw

Anyone that knows me well should know by now I'm a sucker for a female vocalist. One of my fav's from back in the day, the lovely Lisa Shaw, just dropped some new tracks from her yet to be released album "Free". The album is slated to drop in stores March 10th. For a sneak peak check out her myspace page. I'm definitely feeling tracks "Better Days" and "Like I Want To".

LISA SHAW "FREE"
New Artist Album In Stores March 10

“FREE”
LISA SHAW|SALTED MUSIC| RELEASED: MARCH 10, 2009
Lisa Shaw releases her second artist album on Salted Music, with distribution partner Tommy Boy, and also prepares for an extensive North American tour.

“Free” is the beautifully crafted and eagerly awaited second artist album from the lovely Lisa Shaw. Written and produced by Dave Warrin and Lisa Shaw featuring guest producers Miguel Migs, Ethan White from Tortured Soul and Tim K, “Free” is Lisa’s latest studio effort since her debut album "Cherry" on Naked Music released in 2005.

“Free" showcases Lisa's illustrious voice through a sublime mix of electronic, soul and RnB lovingly packed on one disc. Her voice can be one best described as the ‘dance/electronic Sade’, both aching and soothing. Featured on the album are new house classics such as "Feel", "All Night High" and “Music In You”, as well as sultry downtempo beauties like "Better Days", and "Honey". This album simply has pedigree.

Throughout her career Lisa Shaw has been a proven staple in the deep house world. She has helped define an era with her releases on Naked Music and Salted Music, including the worldwide underground hit “Always”. She has worked with a heavyweight list of producers including the likes of Miguel Migs, Jay Denes, Fred Everything, Julius Papp, Tim Kvasnosky (Home & Garden) King Britt, DJ Smash Hunter and many others. Since 1994 she's had over 40 releases to date released on labels including Naked Music, Om, Salted, RCA, Grand Central UK, Ministry of Sound, Virgin UK, Astralwerks, NRK and WAVE. She has also performed globally with Miguel Migs, Petalpusher LIVE, Andy Caldwell, Fred Everything, DJ Jask and JT Donaldson.

Lisa originally from Canada, but now residing in New York City, has always been in and out of the press including the New York Times, Billboard, CMJ and URB Magazine, as well as performing live on the distinguished David Letterman Show as a backing vocalist for pop-singer Jewel. Even Madonna paid tribute to “Always” in Rolling Stone Magazine, quoting Lisa Shaw to be “So Cool!”

Keep an eye out for Lisa’s new music video featuring “Tomorrow” which will be aired in February 2009. Also, Salted Music will be giving away the Miguel Migs’ produced track “Honey”, for free download. Lisa’s album will be available to purchase two weeks before stores in a exclusive nationwide boutique hotel group, which is yet to be announced. And if that wasn’t enough, Lisa begins her preparations for an extensive North American tour which will take her on the road during Spring 2009. Expect some surprises from Lisa; exclusive performances with Miguel Migs and with live nine piece band, Petalpusher. In a climate where everyone seems to follow the trends Lisa delivers a refreshingly soulful collection of work and remains true to her roots. Lisa Shaw has delivered a thirteen track masterpiece, which is destined to become a classic album, touching all those that hear it.

2009 is the year of ...

Works of Tim Cantor

I discovered the works of Tim Cantor during ASR in San Diego this past year. While bar hopping through the downtown streets I glanced at a gallery open late night from across the street. I somehow managed to sway my boyfriend and his crew to take a moment and walk through. Honestly one of the best gallery exhibits I'd seen in some time. Tim's use of vibrant color, writings, and video are mesmerizing and fairy tale like. Hopefully you adore them just as much as I do!

Here's a glimpse into the world of Tim Cantor...

If your ever in San Diego. Stop by the gallery and view more of his work.
