Vertigoes As one end goes up another goes round

An installation by Nathan Green and Owen Schoppe opens Friday, October 19, 2007 at 3rd Ward

Exhibition Dates: October 19 – November 19, 2007
Exhibition Location: 3rd Ward 195 Morgan Ave. Brooklyn, NY

Vertigoes, a large-scale installation by Nate Green and Owen Schoppe adapts forms from toys, games, and amusement rides to create an interactive and kinetic environment where sculpture fosters group engagement and interaction. Spanning two rooms, Vertigoes contains two interrelated sculptures – a carousel and a group of vertically over-lapped teeter-totters surrounded by 75 music boxes attached to the windows of the gallery. Through physical interaction with the sculpture’s mechanical and analog systems audience members will initiate the movement, displays of light and elements of sound, bringing forth the artists’ vision for Vertigoes. Acceptance of this invitation to engage in events occurring within the sculpture results in mesmerizing and disorienting effects.

From the artist’s statement – Magic can be made with the simplest of things – balls, blocks, jump ropes, and hula-hoops. Once animated through the imagination, such inert objects become mysterious and miraculous. They are the nucleus of our play, influencing how we interact with one another through their design.

The opening reception for Vertigoes takes place 7 – 10 p.m. on Friday, October 19th at 3rd Ward located at 195 Morgan Avenue in East Williamsburg. For more information please call at 718.715.4961 or visit

vertically over-lapped teeter-totters mentioned above ..

the exhibits were connected by thin wires and these .....

This was essentially a carousel with bucket seats that allowed you to lie back and relax while being spun....

both rooms had walls of music boxes attached to the windows of the gallery...

I thought these were the coolest ...

Walk through the crowded main room and stumbled upon some other exhibits ...

"Common China," a selection of photographs by Kirsten C. Springer and sculptures by
Liz Lessner, opens October 12, 2007, 7-10 p.m. The show runs from October 12 through
31 2007 at 3rd Ward, located at 195 Morgan Avenue.

This show talks about status and sex, taboo and display, advertising and commerce, and most of all fantasy and desire. Lessner's sculptures probe the limits of our culture's socially endorsed depictions of desire. Springer's photographs examine the commerce of self-display. Together these works explore the fault lines in our culture's enthusiastic relationship to images of desire.

I snapped shots of a mural I liked ....

I have to throw this out there... I'm not always a fan of the circle's of people that flow through the art community but I have to admit this was a fun artsy following .. here's a glimpse ... cheers kidz!

Converse Century Event

October 17th & 18th ..

We Are Supervision needed a screenprinting assistant to help run a booth for a private converse event.

thanks to natalie for linking me up with this gig..

Converse Century - 100 years of disruption

Patrick in the booth ..

Shirts provided were John Varvatos for Converse . Guests could pick their t-shirt or tanks along with their favorite type of music and we would custom screen print on-site a design of their choosing.

these were the screens ... you could choose from rock, hip hop, folk, techno, disco, pop, and rock & roll

Here's a shirt I picked with my music selections and pattern that I had Patrick create for me ..

Here Patrick shows us how to screen print a shirt. The process takes about 3 min to complete. Start with your screen and place on top of your shirt ...

take your sponge handle with paint and pull it down over the screen several times.

Place under the dryer ..

heat for 2 or 3 minutes and your good to go ..

Apparently the entire process starts with this .. ..

Patrick let me play screenprinter for a while so I made a few shirts of my own. Cant show you these because I made them for friends that have yet to recieve them. Definitely a little more advanced that the ones shown aboved..stay tuned ..

So I took my comfy new kicks and toured the 4 level brownstone rented for this particular event.

Complimentary drinks upon entering and catered bites were passed ...
