Virgin Festival - Day 1

My friend Martin got hooked up with tickets to the Virgin Festival by Virgin Mobile at Pimlico Race Track in Batlimore, MD. A crew of us made a weekend of it and had a blast!! Day 1 was HOT!!! Heat index was 106 degrees so keeping cool was key. Here's a glimpse of the scene...

This was an art installation called the Mud Brick Ruins & The Hive by The Great Quentini. "Mud Brick Ruins is an elaborate miniature ruin made from Terra Cotta Clay and built on site. This Architectural fantasy is reminiscent of African mud brick buildings and ancian ruins form the Southwestern U.S.A. The Hive is a diorama of Dr. Zorg's Secret Underground Space Station."

I think these were little villages ...

Above were awesome teepee's in a VIP lounge that you could lounge in and watch the main stage on a flat screen. Two drink tickets and complimentary fans were givin out daily so we get our mojito on to help stay cool.

Here's some info in the official program guide I thought was worth sharing ...

"We Found Our Green Spot":

Did you know that a festival this size usually produces 192,000 lbs of landfill waste? Talk about bad karma. That why we teamed up with eco-activist Daryl Hannah, and event greening experts, the Spitfire Agency, to assist us in coming as close to a near-zero waste event.

This included things like compostable utensils and cups, and bio-diesel generators.

At the event, Event-goers were greeted at every disposal site by a recycle-expert, who made sure items were properly placed in the "Recycle," "Landfill" or "Compost" bins.

Hit up the VIP after party and snapped a few pics ....

James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem rocked the Red Bull decks. Virgin had a cool simulated VIP plane lounge but I guess I forgot to snap a picture of it.. silly me!
